SMS-PVA and similar rental marketplaces work by pulling from a large pool of numbers across dozens of countries, priced low because each number gets reused across many buyers and projects over its lifetime. That's a reasonable trade for cheap, disposable throwaway signups, but it means two things you can't control: you don't know how many prior accounts a given number has already verified, and you can't guarantee you'll get a US number specifically - the pool gives you whatever's available for that country and price tier.
Platforms that track a number's verification history (banks, exchanges, dating apps, most major messaging apps) are exactly the ones most likely to flag or silently reject a heavily-reused number - which is the opposite of what you want for a verification that actually matters.
