Why a rental pool causes rejections
SMS-Activate is built as a marketplace: a large pool of numbers sourced from many countries, each one rented out for a single activation and then returned to the pool for the next buyer. That's a reasonable model for low-stakes signups, but it means the number you get has almost certainly verified other accounts before yours - sometimes dozens. Platforms that track number reputation (WhatsApp, dating apps, marketplaces, most banks and exchanges) see that history and block the signup or silently drop the code, with no way to tell in advance which numbers are already burned.
The pool also isn't US-specific by default - you're picking from whatever country and carrier is available at the moment, which fails outright on any platform that only accepts a US number.
