5sim runs a marketplace of numbers optimized for price and volume, not exclusivity. The same number gets sold for activation after activation across whichever country and carrier is cheapest at the time, which is a fine trade-off for bulk automation but a poor one for a single important signup. Platforms that maintain a reputation score per number (banks, exchanges, dating apps, most messaging apps) see the repeated prior use and reject or silently drop the code - and you have no way to check that history before paying for the number.
Because the pool spans many countries, you also can't guarantee a US number for a platform that specifically requires one - you get whatever's in stock.
