Verifying a Second WhatsApp Account on the Same Phone

A second WhatsApp account needs its own number. What WhatsApp allows on one phone, ways to get a second number, and what to know about a rented one.

A second WhatsApp account needs a second phone number. WhatsApp ties each account to one number and allows one active account per number. What is easy on one phone is the container. The hard part is the number, and how you will receive its code.

Updated November 2026. WhatsApp's multi-account options differ by phone and app version, so check the settings on your own device.

What WhatsApp allows on one phone

There are a few routes, and what is available depends on your phone and version:

  • WhatsApp Business next to WhatsApp. They are two separate apps with two numbers. This is the most common setup for a side business.
  • Multiple accounts inside one app. Some versions let you add a second account from the settings. If you see an "add account" option there, use it.
  • A dual-app or work-profile feature from your phone's maker, which runs a second copy of WhatsApp.

Whichever you use, the second account still has to be verified with a number that is not already on a WhatsApp account.

Where the second number can come from

  1. A second SIM. Reliable, but it is a second line with its own bill. Worth it for a number you will keep.
  2. An eSIM. Often cheap, but it depends on your country, phone and carrier.
  3. A one-time or rented number. You pay for the code, not a line. It suits a side account that you want verified once. SMS verifications from us start at $0.50 and rentals run one day to one year (pricing, rentals).

The code is sent to the number, not to the phone. If the number is on a SIM you do not hold, or on a VoIP service WhatsApp refuses, you will sit on "Waiting for SMS". If the text does not come, WhatsApp offers a call. See WhatsApp verification code not received.

Verifying with a US number from us

On the WhatsApp service page, pick a number, choose United States (+1) in WhatsApp and enter it, then read the code on your order page. If WhatsApp asks for a call, voice verification answers it and shows the code. Our numbers are real US mobile lines, not VoIP. We cannot guarantee WhatsApp accepts any specific number. If the code does not arrive, you get a full refund. Our guide to verifying several accounts covers keeping them apart.

When not to use a temporary number for the second account

This is the part to think about before you pay:

  • A one-time number is gone in minutes. WhatsApp can ask you to verify again, for example on a new phone. The code cannot reach a number you no longer have.
  • A rental ends. The number can then be given to someone else, who could try to register it on WhatsApp.
  • Protect it. Turn on two-step verification straight away (Settings, Account, Two-step verification), and choose a rental long enough for the life of the account.

If the second account is a business that matters, use a number you will keep, such as a second SIM. A short-lived number is better suited to a short-lived use. Please follow WhatsApp's terms: one person running a business and a personal account is fine, but we cannot help with anything meant to get around its rules.
